Getting into the groove with the swinging 60s at the Courtyard

IT’S all about the swinging 60s at The Courtyard this coming week with not one but three classic acts due to appear in Hereford.

First off, The Overtures pay tribute to some of the decade’s biggest names in The Bootleg Sixties show on Monday night, with covers from The Beatles to The Byrds.

Billed as one of the finest exponents of 60s music in the world today, the fivepiece also won favour with Elton John after he asked them to play at his civil ceremony and also to support him at the 02 Arena at New Year.

Their new two-hour show promises great music, extensive visual footage and authentic costumes.

The Fortunes and The Ivy League then bring the songs that saw both bands emerge from the 1960s and continue well into the 70s back to the masses on Friday, September 10.

Following on from the Merseybeat scene, The Fortunes added sophisticated orchestration and dual lead vocals to their sound before various hits including You’ve Got Your Troubles, Seasons in the Sun and Storm in a Tea Cup ensued.

Their latest outing also features Bob Jackson, of Badfinger fame, who is best known for fronting hits such as Come and Get It and Without You.

In contrast, The Ivy League later became one of the best-known comedy cabaret acts in the country.

Dave Buckley and Jon Brennan promise to deliver a slick performance, unparalleled harmonies and “lots and lots of hit records”.
