Edinburgh formed band Moishe's Bagel at Ludlow Assembly Rooms

8:00am Tuesday 7th September 2010

FORMED in Edinburgh seven years ago when four of the band’s members met in a local tango outfit, Moishe’s Bagel combines the energy and passion of Eastern European folk music with the excitement and soul of improvisation.

With the recruiting of a percussion wizard to give a new twist to the klezmer/Balkan groove, the line-up found an unbeatable mix to deliver riproaring, foot-stomping music – an intoxicating, life-affirming mix of Eastern European dance music, Middle Eastern rhythms and virtuoso performances.

“We’re not too concerned with authenticity – there are enough people doing that already,” says Greg Lawson. “We let the interaction of our individual musical personalities create our own style.

“The result is a band which has the excitement of occasional improvisation, with an energy that keeps the music highly danceable, and visually and aurally exciting.” Moishe’s Bagel have toured the UK and Eastern Europe with sell-out shows at prestigious venues including The Roundhouse Studio in London and The Sage, Gateshead.

Festival performances have included The Larmer Tree Festival, Sheep Music and Islay Jazz Festival.

They will be playing at Ludlow Assembly Rooms on Tuesday, September 21, at 7.30pm.
