THERE’S a rare opportunity to see the innovative and traditional Estonian folk band Ro:toro in Brilley Village Hall on Wednesday.
Ro:toro play traditional Estonian melodies with a female piper, an improvising saxophonist, electric guitar and a mad percussionist who plays plastic bowls on a waterbed.
The group works with traditional bagpipe tunes which also inspire its original compositions. Ro:toro have been collecting the songs of Khant, from the remote parts of Russia, and will be including some of them in their concert.
You can also marvel at the plethora of unusual items that can make percussive sounds as Silver Sepp plays planks of wood, bicycle wheels and other everyday objects in what promises to be a really interesting musical night out.
The band’s extraordinary performances have proved a huge hit on the European festival circuit – and in Eardisley last year – with the modern joyously and energetically blending with the ancient.
“Ro:toro have been brought over to the UK as part of the Baltic Roots tour,” says Arts Alive director, Sian Kerry.
“We had fantastic feedback from their gig with us last year so we are really pleased to welcome them back.”
The concert is a co-promotion between Nightjar Music and Arts Alive and takes place at Brilley Village Hall on Wednesday, March 10 at 7.30pm.
