'Alfie' returns to the stage at The Courtyard in Hereford

8:00am Thursday 4th February 2010

AN iconic film character made famous on screen by Michael Caine and, more recently, Jude Law, Alfie returns to the stage tonight at The Courtyard in Hereford.

Originally written for the stage in 1963 by Bill Naughton, Alfie tells the story of a young man for whom ‘birds’ are irresistible, as essential as breathing.

Revived by Blackeyed Theatre, Alfie combines great comedy, genuine pathos, and live music, as it follows a cockney Don Juan who swaggers and philosophises his way from conquest to conquest, carefully rejecting anyone or anything that might touch him too deeply.

“Alfie is such a well-known character, and the play so funny and well written that I would not only recommend it to drama fans, but also to newcomers to theatre and fans of the film,” says The Courtyard’s learning, participation and programming coordinator Grant Brisland.

Bringing together the same artistic team behind Blackeyed Theatre’s highly acclaimed national tour of Oh! What A Lovely War, which visited The Courtyard in September 2008, Alfie promises the same captivating performances, fabulous design and great live music.
