NATIONAL Dance Company Wales, formerly Diversions, celebrates its first visit to The Courtyard, Hereford under its new name on Wednesday, October 7, with three exciting new dances guaranteed to set pulses racing.
Artistic director Ann Sholem has commissioned the dances from three distinctive international choreographers.
Set against the reality of post-war Britain, Nigel Charnock’s Lunatic shimmers with the moonlit glamour and romance of 1940s and 50s music. Instantly theatrical and entertaining, the work is the first dance created for the company by the charismatic performer and choreographer. Hinterland is the creation of company founder Roy Campbell-Moore, a beautifully lyrical and poetic work, with flowing costumes and atmospheric colour-schemes celebrating the music of the late Welsh composer Alun Hoddinott.
Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis’ debut with the company, Veil of Stars, is an inspiring new work that focuses on his hallmark technical virtuosity and fluidity. This highly visual work will have audiences mesmerised with the seamless sophistication of the gripping work.
“I’m very excited to be presenting this seasons performances under our new name,” says Anne Sholem. “The three productions make a terrific programme of elegant, bold and beautiful dance.”
The company was picked as one of the Telegraph’s “Top ten dance triumphs” of 2008 and continues to enjoy critical acclaim for its continually developing work.
