Big Chill opened by Woodstock mastermind Michael Lang

1:58pm Thursday 6th August 2009

HEREFORDSHIRE'S favourite festival, The Big Chill will be opened by the legendary Michael Lang, creator of Woodstock, widely regarded as one of the most significant moments in popular music history and listed as one of the “50 moments that changed the history of rock and roll” by Rolling Stone magazine.

Michael will be appearing at the Words In Motion tent on the opening evening, Thursday, so that Big Chill revellers will be able to meet the man himself in a special Q&A session. Chillers can also watch a 40th anniversary screening of the film, Woodstock: Three Days of Peace & Music.

“Woodstock is seen as the perfect celebration of the 60s’ peace and love movement. An ideal which the founders of The Big Chill hold dear and which has helped define the ethos of The Big Chill these past 15 years,” says Big Chill founder Katrina Larkin. “It is yet to be seen if the skinny dipping that was so prevalent in the Filippini Pond in ’69 will happen in the Eastnor pond this year. If it does then it is likely that Michael Lang will be the one leading the charge!”

ANYONE who saw Mr Hudson, then with his band The Libary at the 2007 Big Chill, will have been thrilled to learn that he was one of the final additions to the line-up, playing on Friday in The Coop.

Mr Hudson, set to top the charts this weekend with current single Supernova, joins the Triple Mercury Music Prize Nominated line up alongside Ashley Beedle and Hafdis Huld, with Leafcutter John & Talvin Singh leading the Stop the City party Also on the bill are Chicha Libre, Ashley Beedle, Robert Luis, Mr Bongo Sound System, Mike Chadwick and Heller Better Dance; plus a 15th year celebration session courtesy of video-mashup masters Hexstatic featuring special guests including Shlomo, Bird Gang Dance and Magic Drum Orchestra.
