Big name comedy at The Courtyard this autumn

COMEDY is high on the agenda at The Courtyard with its well established and hugely popular Comedy Club and regular visits from top comedians, and the autumn season promises more laughs to come.

The Courtyard Comedy Club, sponsored by Bulmer’s, has become a massive success, regularly selling out weeks in advance. But as well as these fortnightly events, the arts centre is known for attracting some of the biggest names around. Past names include Lee Evans, Stuart Lee, Jack Dee, Andy Parsons and of course their very own patron, Jo Brand.

With the sell-out success of Michael McIntyre in May, The Courtyard has decided to release their new season of comedians early so when the summer comes to an end you still have great nights of comedy to look forward to.

Kicking off a season of comedy is actor, writer and comedian Marcus Brigstocke on Thursday, October 1. Marcus began his comedy career while at Bristol University, winning the BBC New Comedian of the Year in 1996, going on to appear on many of the top TV comedy shows; QI, Have I Got News For You and Live at the Apollo to name just three. He is a regular on Radio 4 with his own comedy show and has written and recorded several series for them; recently transferring I’ve Never Seen Star Wars to television.

Next up is the very loud, slightly grouchy but always entertaining Rich Hall on Friday, October 28. Rich is a master of absurdist irony who particularly likes to lay into Americans and life across the Pond at every opportunity. He has been performing to sell-out audiences across the world as himself and his alter ego, Otis Lee Crenshaw, a jailbird from Tennessee who has been married seven times – to wives who are all called Brenda.

Completing a big-name trio is Jeremy Hardy on Monday, November 9. Hardy is just as likely to be found protesting outside the Houses of Parliament as he is touring the country with his hit stand-up show. It is his fast-paced political satire that has brought him critical acclaim with numerous Radio 4 programmes, newspaper columns and television appearances.

Comedy goes fast at The Courtyard, so avoid disappointment by calling the box office on 01432 340555 or visiting courtyard.org.uk. All three shows are priced £15.
