THIS term the Courtyard Senior Youth Theatre has been exploring the work of Michael Frayn, one of Britain’s most highly respected playwrights, and will present the results in the Studio Theatre on Thursday, July 9.
Alarms and Excursions, written at the beginning of the 21st century, is a collection of several short pieces, a wonderfully comic play that reveals how dependent we have become on the latest gadgets and gizmos only to watch the lives we have created for ourselves turn on us and make things a living hell.
Through 10 weeks of rehearsals the youth theatre members have worked hard, with the emphasis, as always, on a company of actors working together to create an outstanding performance, but more importantly develop their own personal skills.
“It is the commitment to training these young people for the profession that is vital to the success of the Senior Youth Theatre,” says education oficer and leader of the youth theatre, David Durrant.
“Although I give structure to the classes, it is the members that make this work with their dedication, passion and hard work. By allowing them to feel in control of their work, they are learning what it is to be a member of a company.”
To book, call the box office on 01432 340555 or visit courtyard.org.uk. Tickets cost £3.
