HAVING proved themselves true to their name throughout an unpredictable summer last year, Gloucester-based Rain or Shine Theatre Company will be visiting several venues in the region this year with their production of The Taming of the Shrew, a production recently given the thumbs-up from The Stage, which said: “Lively and enthusiastic performances abound from all the cast, with comical set-pieces superbly handled.”
“This year, we are performing Shakespeare’s rumbustious romantic comedy The Taming of the Shrew,” says director James Reynard.
“In this provocative play, the fortune-hunting Petruchio sets out to tame the shrewish heiress Katharina, while others see her younger sister Bianca as the prize.
“The cast are all hoping for a long, hot summer, but true to its name the company will perform whatever the weather, so come prepared – just in case.”
The tour visits Hergest Croft Gardens (01544 230160) on Saturday at 7.30pm; Goodrich Castle on Sunday, July 12; Dore Abbey on Wednesday, July 15; Chepstow Castle on Friday, July 17; Caldicot Castle on Thursday, August 20, and Babington Meadow Arena, near Monmouth, on Monday, August 31.
