THE Saturday Café, the popular series of informal lunchtime music gigs at the Courtyard, has embarked on its new season.
This week, Saturday brings the return of the Melody Makers, the line-up of jazzers led by Wendy Mantle on piano, and featuring the superb vocals of Janey Williams.
On Saturday, May 17, there’s another session from Luke, Mills & Jackson. Dave, Tommy and George, on guitar, bass and drums, are renowned for all that’s best in acoustic roots and rock.
Two excellent specialist jazz players – Erika Lyons (double bass) and Andy Novak (piano) – feature on Saturday, May 24, and the month rounds off on Saturday, May 31, with the welcome return of Bridget and the Big Girls’ Blues. Bridget pays wonderful tribute to the legendary women of the Blues – Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Billie Holliday and more.
The Saturday Café is promoted by the Music Pool in partnership with the Courtyard, with financial support from Herefordshire Council. All sessions run from noon to 2pm and admission is free.
