MERCURY Prize nominees, The Young Knives, one of the biggest bands to play Hereford in a while, will be at The Jailhouse on Wednesday, May 14.
It’s an exclusive warm-up show ahead of Brighton’s Great Escape Festival.
Bursting on the music scene in 2005 with their debut album Voices of Animals and Men (produced by Andy Gill from Gang of Four), the band were quickly taken to the bosom of the indie nation, as their quirky song titles and lyrics became a mainstay of the summer festivals.
They were nominated for the 2006 Mercury Music Prize, and spent the year supporting a host of massive bands in arenas all over the country. They returned to their hometown of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and spent much of last year working on their second album, Superabundance.
The Young Knives began 2008 with a bang, releasing two singles, Terra Firma and Up All Night in quick succession, with both receiving extensive Radio 1 airplay. With their second album now released, they will be hitting the festivals again this summer, so this could be the last time they play a venue this small. Support for the night comes from local indie band Brandon Steep (who are also playing the Great Escape Festival), Sixth Form College band Rupert and the Robbers, and How To Dress For Cricket.
The Young Knives play The Jailhouse on Wednesday, May 14. Tickets can be purchased online at www.seetickets.com although there will also be tickets available on the door. The event is open to over-16s.
