Time to make an impact

2:02pm Thursday 16th August 2007

LINE, Light and Time are the themes - and the title - of the latest exhibition to be staged at Galanthus Gallery in Wormbridge.

For only the second time since the gallery opened just over two years ago, there will also be an artist-in-residence at Galanthus, with Angela Howard in the gallery on selected days to discuss her work, the thinking behind it and the processes involved in creating the finished pieces.

Angela, who is currently studying for a fine art degree at Herefordshire College of Arts, works in acrylic to explore the passing of time, memory, fertility and growth.

"I have drawn and painted all my life, and my main love is organic growth and natural forms," she explains.

Circumstances having prevented her from going to art college when she left school, Angela, who is now 43, finally started at Hereford College of Arts three years ago. "I have spent the last three years taking it very seriously," she says. "It's the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I'm pleased not to have done it earlier. I have a much richer tapestry to draw on now."

Also featured in the current exhibition is Helen Cass, whose fascinating linear paintings are an exploration of the concepts and processes of repetition. Completing the trio of featured artists is Karen Downing, whose work includes elegant porcelain tableware and proportionally scaled ceramic vessels.

Line, Light and Time runs until September 25 at Galanthus Gallery, Wormbridge, from 10am to 5pm, closed Wednesdays.
