MCCARTNEYS auction of antiques and general furniture record sale was helped by two wonderful house clearances. These included several old and interesting items of oak furniture together with military memorabilia and a very interesting collection of 1970s Abba dolls, these were found in a box of items and the collectable dolls reached a staggering £330.

However the quality antique furniture had attracted over 230 registered buyers and many of the lots far exceeded their guide prices, a Victorian pine kitchen unit with a Belfast sink included made £605 over double its guide.

While one of the main military items being a genuine cavalry sword made by J Mortimer in Edinburgh made £600 and attracted buyers from all parts of the UK, an interesting 19th century oak dresser base with brass handles from heavy dark oak, three plank refectory table which made £520 and the chairs to match reached £270.

It was the best sale to date with an oak chest of two short over three graduated long drawers with panelling attracting a bid of £460 with another at £250, also a pair of small mahogany Georgian side tables made £270.

There was considerable interest in the silver ware on offer with a collection of cutlery making over £600 for an in-complete set, while a single silver ladle with three serving spoons made £250.

This sale even attracted international interest with buyers shipping general items of furniture to America. The pine was also in demand with wardrobes up to £210 and pine chest of drawers making £180.
