ON a gloomy evening, an audience at John Kyrle High School banished the autumn chills by enjoying a number of modern and classical performances ranging from Moussorgsky and Michael Nyman to Eric Clapton and Johnny Cash with music from film and TV thrown in for good measure at the school’s autumn concert.

The concert not only highlighted the great instrumental and vocal ability the John Kyrle students possess, but also allowed students to display many other technical skills including stage management and the organisation of sound and lighting. Standing out from many great performances was an exceptional vocal solo by Georgia Hollis of At Last and the Jazz Band’s Moonlight Serenade. The senior choir also added to the number of inspiring performances.

Head of music, Deb Blake paid tribute to the talent and dedication of all the students involved, the staff that had assisted in rehearsing them and the fantastic support given by parents. Headteacher, Nigel Griffiths, commented how the audience had been entertained by a huge variety of the highest quality music and that he was always delighted with the wealth of talent that the students possess and how well students, parents and staff work together to develop it.
