Sports hall wins planning approval

PLANNING permission has been granted for a new sports hall in Colwall.

Construction of the hall on the grounds of the Downs School, which is soon to be merged with Malvern College Preparatory School, will lead to improvements of a nearby road junction.

In order to cope with extra traffic, a one-way system will be introduced where Old Church Road and Brockhill Road meet Walwyn Road.

Herefordshire councillors approved proposals, despite concerns over the highways layout.

Planning officers assured members the plans were designed to keep intact an area of green space at the junction.

Mike Bees, a planning consultant, said the school would be happy for a 20mph speed limit to be imposed on the road.

The sports hall will be fitted with changing rooms at ground floor level and four classrooms on the first floor.

An extra 12 parking spaces would also be created on the site as well as 15 cycle stands.
