ROSS Rowing Club had plenty to celebrate at last night's Herefordshire Sports Awards with prizes in two categories and a highly commended in another.
After the most successful year in their history, the Club of the Year prize was just one more award for Ross to add to their overflowing trophy cabinet.
The club had 56 successes at competitive regatta events with a further 10 at heads of the river. And there were 32 wins as well for the club's junior crews.
Ross, whose junior academy has grown into one of the strongest in the West Midlands since its creation in 2005, have also had considerable success with their Discover Rowing programme which helps adults to learn sculling with a view to graduating into club squads. Forty new members have already been attracted.
The success of the club's junior section is recognised by the award of the Junior Team of the Year to the club's junior 12 scullers Kelly Morris and Rosie Lindley.
The pair competed in junior 12, 13 and 14 events around the Midlands circuit last year, carrying off the top prize in 17 events across the three age groups, including a success at their home regatta.
To round off a memorable evening for the club, senior coach Robin Fletcher, who coaches and administers the club's ladies' squad and the junior rowing academy, picked up a highly commended in the Coach of the Year category.
