Riverside Defeat For Social

Riverside AFC 2

Boreham Wood Social Club 1

West Herts Challenge Cup U17s

Social lost this game despite a hard-fought battle which started with them in control in the first half.

They were unlucky not to score when Bunny Flaherty put Michael Bush through. He slipped the ball past the advancing keeper only to see it go wide of the post.

Ten minutes into the second half Wood took a deserved lead when David Cunnington went on one of his mazy runs, going past three players, only to be cut down from behind.

The referee immediately awarded a penalty and it was keeper Dan Caskie who stepped up to score his third goal of the season.

However, he was at fault for the equalising goal 15 minutes from time. The Riverside midfielder took a free kick from outside the area, Caskie caught then dropped the ball, before the Riversiders bundled it over the line ot level the score.

With extra time looming the game was going end to end, but it was Riverside who nicked the game 30 seconds from time when the ball fell to one of their players who shot it home from the edge of the box.

Wood threw everything they had at the Riverside end in the dying moments but they could not peg it back.

WOOD: Caskie, Doran, Cunnington, Bishop, Surry, Robertson, Flaherty, Coleman, Bush, Bishop, O'Connor. Subs: Butterfield, Gatta, Russell.
