Inventors given chance to shine

Young Croydon inventors have their chance to make a name for themselves as a young inventor of the future.

Staff at Maplin Electronics, North End, have launched a competition to find students between the ages of 13 and 16 with a real flair for creating their own inventions. Groups of up to four students will be invited to design an invention for the future in one of five categories before an overall winner for the south east is announced in Summer 2001.

The winning group will then make its design into a working model with more than £1,250-worth of prizes up for grabs in the overall final.
