PRESIDENT Anne Goodwin opened the April meeting, introducing a guest for the evening - Mary Cousins.

Four members, Libby Hughes, Celia Jones, Sue Lloyd and Valerie Burden took part in the WI Bowls Tournament and two of the members Sue Lloyd and Valerie Burden did exceptionally well by coming third in the final.

Members will take part in the WI Quiz in May.

A spring tea and fayre will take place at Walton Village Hall on April 30 at 3pm. Cake, plant, bottle, Chinese auction stalls, along with a draw will all be present for the afternoon.

The county show at Knighton will be held on the May 21. It was decided what members will take part.

Joan Payne, speaker for the evening was introduced. Joan is a trustee of The Radnorshire Wildlife Trust. Based in Landrindod, Joan has been involved with the trust for the last 19 years starting as a Tuesday volunteer.

There are 47 wild life sites over the UK. Joan showed slides of local places having a wild life area in Radnorshire. The largest site is Gilfach Farm near Rhayader.

Volunteers work keeping bracken cut, coppicing etc. allowing flowers such as wild orchids and other unusual wild flowers to grow.

Streams run through many of the sites where birds such as dippers are seen, salmon are seen at certain times of the year.

Volunteers have made the sites visitor friendly having made seating areas as well as wheel chair access to some.

It was a tasting evening of dishes members had made, to choose which ones to enter for the county show.

Next meeting May 3 will be, Alternative Therapies - Jo Davies, the competition will be a poem about spring.
