A SPECIAL commemorative medal has been made to mark the 100th anniversary of a county regiment landing at Suvla Bay during the Gallipoli Campaign.

Only 250 of the regimental medals have been introduced to remember when the 1st Battalion of The Herefordshire Regiment landed at Suvla Bay on August 9, 1915.

The Herefordshire Light Infantry Museum has commissioned the medals, which come in a fitted presentation case ready for display and a pin brooch for wear.

A silver rosette, which can be sewn to the medal's ribbon, can be added for those who buy the medal who had a family member that served in the regiment during the First World War.

Colonel Andy Taylor OBE said: "A medal is something which people can wear to show their support or their connection with the regiment."

Anybody can buy the medals, which can be worn on civilian clothing on the right breast. Members of the Herefordshire Regiment have also been given permission to wear them at the Suvla 100 event in Hereford on August 8.

The medals are £25, with profits staying with the museum. To buy one call 01432 359917 or call in at the museum on Wednesdays from 12 to 4pm during July at Suvla Barracks, Harold Street in Hereford.
