A HEREFORD man is taking on a sprint triathlon this summer in memory of two British TV journalists who were killed by a car bomb in Iraq.
Karl Taylor was in Baghdad on the security circuit looking after the CBS News team in 2006.
On May 29, 2006 he was due to collect Paul Douglas, a camera operator, and James Brolan, a soundman, from a U.S. army embed.
But they were killed by a car explosion and it fell upon Mr Taylor and his colleague Jim Williams, to identify their bodies.
Mr Taylor, who now works for CBS News' high risk team, said he got to know the two men very well during his time in Baghdad.
This summer he is taking part in the London sprint triathlon as part of a team of three. There are nine teams from CBS News taking part to raise money for the Rory Peck Trust, which provides practical assistance and support to freelance news gatherers and their families.
Mr Taylor, 51, said: "Every time we go away there are always freelancers going away with nothing. We are spoilt with the care we get going away.
"We were in Yemen last week. Some freelancers there had to leech onto us; otherwise they wouldn't have got out of the country."
This is the ninth year employees of CBS News will take part in a fundraising activity, in memory or Mr Douglas and Mr Brolan.
