HOLMER Church over 60s' lunch club enjoyed their annual ‘holiday at home’ in the church centre, a day-long event with lunch, tea and lots of entertainment for the 50 guests. Sandra Soans brought along her unique collection of fashions and household items from 60 or 70 years ago, which was a trip down memory lane for the guests, especially the three ladies who tried on some of the hats they remembered wearing in their younger days.
Brian Turner led the singing of popular wartime songs on his banjo, the church youth orchestra played, and Chris Roffe played the keyboard, sang and told jokes. Chris also showed a film, with appropriate music, of the club’s daytrip to Weston-super-Mare earlier in the summer. Organisers Barbara Briggs, Ruth Thomas and their team earned a big round of applause.
