A £2.14m grant will benefit the major redevelopment planned for the Oval in South Wye.

The funding was secured last week by Herefordshire Housing and will help pay for new, affordable homes and refurbishments across the county over the next three years.

Among those projects is the redevelopment of The Oval, a multi-million pound renovation of Kilvert Road, Broxash Drive and Beattie Avenue.

Paula Kennedy, managing director of Herefordshire Housing, said: “We are committed to providing tenants with a place to be proud of.

“This will enable us to improve the communities and lives of many people within Herefordshire by providing them with quality, affordable homes.

“Herefordshire has a shortage of housing and so this grant will help us alleviate that problem – we are very pleased.”

Also in line to benefit from the grant are the proposed 35-appartment development at the Ship Inn site off the ASDA roundabout and the Larkrise redevelopment at Much Birch.

Effectively the grant, from the Homes and Communities Agency, will help provide 95 homes – 80 affordable rent properties and 15 shared ownership properties.

Other projects currently in the pipeline for Herefordshire Housing include; developing 67 properties on the new Hereford Rugby Club site at Hampton Bishop, 10 affordable homes proposed to be built in Ewyas Harold and the redevelopment of a Local Authority site at Upton Bishop that will include 10 units for social rent and a plot of new allotments.
