THE Great Kington Limerick Competition is underway, and poets that know it have a month to compose the winning verse.
Kington Museum’s Robert Pritchard, who organises the competition with Castle Hill Books, is hoping for originality – but not indecency – from the entrants.
He said: “The funnier, the cleverer, the better, but not too rude, please.”
The poems – five-line verses with a distinctive rhythm, and often nonsensical or risqué subject matter – will be entered into adult, secondary or primary school categories with group winners earning £5 and the overall winner claiming £20.
Entries should be submitted either to the bookshop in Church Street or to the museum in Mill Street by September 1.
