A FORMER Leominster MP has celebrated 50 years of happy marriage.

Lord Peter and Lady Tahere Temple-Morris marked their golden anniversary with a celebration in London last weekend – but there was a Herefordshire touch.

Bishop John Oliver, a former Bishop of Hereford, officiated at a thanksgiving service in the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft at the Palace of Westminster.

That was followed by a reception and lunch on the Terrace of the Lords where the couple was joined by family and friends.

Lord Temple-Morris of Llandaff and Leominster, is well known in Herefordshire and was MP for Leominster from 1974 to 2001.

He was elected as a Conservative but sensationally joined Labour in 1998 a year after retaining his seat.

He was also suspended from the Tory party in 1997 over commitment issues and became a life peerage in the House of Lords after 27 years in the Commons in 2001.
