IT'S Our County have triumphed in Ledbury's by-election, claiming a seat previously occupied by the Conservatives.

Town councillor and former mayor Terry Widdows secured his place on the county council after winning the by-election which was prompted by the death of Cllr Peter Watts in May.

Cllr Widdows saw off Conservative rival Cllr Allen Conway, another former Ledbury mayor, and Paul Stanford from UKIP.

"I'm overjoyed that Ledbury has decided to vote for change," he said.

"They are sending a clear message."

He said one of his priorities was the town's streetscene, including grass cutting.

Wonderful news! Perhaps at long last the fact that the present administration no longer 'rules the roost', we might expect 10 months of true democratic governance across this county - or is that too much to ask for?

Along with the win by the Greens in Leominster last night - this really does send a message from the electorate that we are very angry at the way the Cabinet (mis-)governs Herefordshire.
The Tories are exhausted. They have to go and let those who are capable try to turn this county around.

excellent news! it's always good to see the Tories and UKIP (aren't they the BNP with 'O' Levels?) getting a bit of a kicking...

Good news and a set back for the Tory cabinet-run system, as well as recognition of a hard-working town councillor. His was the only leaflet we got, which encouraged us to vote for him
But look at the 2011 council results, when 3 councillors were elected for Ledbury. 2 Tories got in, and Liz Harvey for Its Our County. And who was the 3rd Tory who failed to get in? Terry Widdows!!
So our choice in Ledbury was for an official Tory, an ex-Tory (who didn't mention this on his leaflet) and the ultra-Tory swivel-eyed loons of UKIP!

Brownface60: You're correct that Terry stood for the Tories in 2011, We've been clear about this on our website (referenced on all leaflets) throughout the campaign: http://www.itsourcou

in-there/

I've seen Terry develop as a councillor and learn from his close-up experience of the local party machine since 2011. I'm confident he will be an excellent and active county councillor for all Ledbury ward residents and hope you will give us both the opportunity to demonstrate this day-to-day.

To have made more of the reasons why Terry's politics have evolved since 2011 would have been challenged as 'negative campaigning' by the Tories - but you can see some of the nonsense on my blog, along with the Tory response - which has now been expunged from their FB page. http://councillorhar
