Breinton

PARISH COUNCIL – At their July meeting, Breinton parish councillors welcomed Steve Churchill, who is the recently appointed locality steward for Hereford rural area. Steve will be the link between the parish council and Balfour Beatty in respect of concerns with highways, street lighting, footpaths/public rights of way and open spaces.

Steve responded to a number of questions on a variety of topics.

Although “cuts to the budget” was a theme that was present in all matters, it is hoped there will be ways in which Balfour Beatty can address the major concerns of parishioners.

The parish councillors agreed the final response to the Core Strategy Consultation phase, which was co-ordinated by Herefordshire Council. The response was submitted on time.

Thanks go to Liz Morawiecka for her huge efforts in coordinating the response to the Core Strategy.

As a result of the reduced service from Herefordshire Council, Breinton Council agreed for the lengthsman to carry out verge and hedge trimming works at key points around the parish.

Luckily, there is very little crime reported in Breinton, which makes it a very safe place to live.

However, it is important to remain vigilant and to take steps to reduce the opportunities for crime.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team has suggested that the installation of burglar alarms and/or CCTV can play a part in reducing crime even further. For further details and advice, please contact the Hereford Rural North Team on 101, or email herefordrn.snt@ westmercia.pnn.police.uk It is hoped that the fireworks party this year will take place at Warham Court Farm.

On Saturday between 2pm and 4pm the newly opened Garron Centre in Llangarron HR9 6NJ, will host a strawberry tea party for Breast Cancer Care – the only UK-wide specialist support charity. £5 per person, scone with cream and jam or cake with tea or coffee, children £2 for a cupcake and cold drink.

The Garron Centre is holding a strawberry tea because several members of the local community have personal experience of breast cancer and have received valuable support from Breast Cancer Care.

Denise Morehead whose idea it was to hold the strawberry tea says: “Sadly breast cancer touches many of us and our families. I was keen to help by raising money and awareness of the charity. In Llangarron our new community centre, The Garron Centre, has just opened so it seemed a great opportunity to take advantage of the wonderful facilities we have by hosting a tea.”

Georgie Burchell, strawberry tea fundraising officer at Breast Cancer Care added: “We rely on supporters like Denise to ensure we can continue to provide our vital emotional support network for free. With one in eight women developing breast cancer in their lifetime, there has never been such an urgent need for our support services.”

Breast Cancer Care’s strawberry tea campaign, which is sponsored by fine bone china teaware specialist Royal Albert, runs from June 1-August 31. And it doesn’t matter if you raise £20 or £200 – all funds raised help provide vital support. Order your own strawberry tea fundraising kit at www.breastcancercare.org.uk/strawberry or call 0870 164 9422.
