MUCH Marcle's WWI exhibition weekend was not as well attended as organisers would have liked, but a good sum, £575, was raised for services charities.

Event spokesman, Scot Fleming said the exhibition in the village's Memorial Hall was "extremely well received" by those who did attend for a glimpse of local history, one century on from the outbreak of the conflict.

He said: "The exhibits were varied and interesting and the timeline of events cleverly developed a picture of how the conflict unfolded and eventually ended.

"The interest was heightened by the addition of local news and personal profiles of the men from the village who died in the service of their Country."

He added: "I personally learned a great deal from the exhibition."
