CAMPAIGNERS who are opposing two proposed supermarkets for Leominster are urging residents to register their objections.

Two superstores are proposed for different sites in the town and after both were rejected in January this year, developers have scaled down their plans.

Names of both proposed stores, on Mill Street and Southern Avenue, have not been revealed.

Morbaine, which is proposing a store on the current site of Thomas Panels and Profiles and builds for Tesco and other well-known stores, has reduced the sales area of its new application.

And Dales is proposing a 36,000 sq ft store with 200 free car parking spaces and a four-pump petrol station.

But objectors still believe the plans could have an impact on the town centre and to the decline of people shopping in Leominster.

Objectors claim that if developers are granted permission to go ahead with plans, they will be in an “unchallengeable position” to expand the store later on.

Any objections should be sent to Herefordshire Council by emailing planning_enquiries@herefordshire.gov.uk or by visiting www.herefordshire.gov.uk/searchplanningapplications before June 13.
