A REVIVED river carnival made a splash in Hereford over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The carnival launched the Wye Valley River Festival floated little more than a year ago with the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the helm.

Festival fortnight cast off in Hereford on Saturday to head downstream and into a series of events that took it to Brockweir.

Planned as a pilot, this year's festival will be the basis for future biennial events.

And, as our pictures show, there's no reason why that cannot happen.

The weekend event was Hereford's first river carnival in 41 years. Organisers this week thanked the hundreds of " amazing" volunteers to the team who helped put the event together in such a short space of time with virtually no budget.

There were more festivities on Sunday in Ross-on-Wye, with pirates taking to the waters, as well as a host of other activities.

Almost everything seen or taken part in was offered free of charge or at very reduced rates.
