A VILLAGE primary school has welcomed a good grading from Ofsted inspectors.

Goodrich CE Primary School's report noted "significant" improvements made since the last inspection when it received a satisfactory score.

The report states that staff are dedicated and conscientious and that most teaching is now good, with "some outstanding".

It adds that the school is a place that pupils say they enjoy coming to and that it is a safe place in which to learn and play.

Pupils are polite, the report says, and behave well around the school.

The school is not yet outstanding because activities in the reception class are not always well matched to the children's capabilities and in some lessons the most able students are not given hard enough work.

But the inspectors added that the school places a "high priority" on engaging with parents and those parents were "overwhelming positive", particularly about how accessible staff are and how quickly any concerns are addressed.
