A DERELICT church near Bromyard could be converted into a house.

Andrew Staples has submitted plans for St Andrew's Church in Wolferlow.

A document sent to Herefordshire Council states that the 12th Century church was closed for "a number of reasons" and the aim now is to find an alternative use for the building.

The statement added that the most appropriate use suggested so for is for the church to be converted into a private dwelling.

"It is clear that St Andrews's is a nationally significant building, however it has been agreed that it is no longer viable as a place of public worship," said Alex Coppock, representing Mr Staples.

"Despite this, the site is still culturally relevant to many in the local community.

"Therefore, there is a case to allow a change of use to enable the building to be used as a house.

"This will allow the place to remain in order to serve as a an anchor for the heritage values that it holds."
