LEDBURY'S MP, Bill Wiggin has welcomed a forthcoming cash boost to local schools.
Mr Wiggin, the MP for North Herefordshire, was in the House of Commons, on Thursday March 13, to ask a question about the additional school funding.
He welcomed the news, from Education Minister David Laws, of an additional £2.6 million, - money which will be awarded to Herefordshire Council next year
From 2015/16 school funding per pupil in Herefordshire will increase from £4,306 to £4,430. An increase of £124 per pupil or 2.9%.
After the session Mr Wiggin said: ““I am delighted that Herefordshire has been awarded this extra funding, this is exactly what I pressed the Prime Minister for when I lobbied him about Herefordshire’s funding problems before Christmas.
“This is the latest in a series of good announcements for Herefordshire.
“In January Herefordshire Council was awarded £1,732,894 in capital funding for new school places between 2014 and 2017 and in the provisional Local Government Settlement Herefordshire Council was awarded an additional £598,000 for both 2014/15 and 2015/16.”
