DEVELOPERS who failed to convince councillors that a 30-home proposal in Lugwardine was sustainable have come back with a renewed application.

James Spreckley, on behalf of the applicant Mrs E Seymour, is once again pitching the scheme, which includes 10 affordable homes, on Quarry Field, near Cotts Lane.

The initial application was turned down at a Herefordshire Council planning meeting last November because of concerns regarding access and the increase in traffic that the proposal could bring.

However, the revised application states that the planning committee's concerns have been addressed and the site is suitable and available for an allocation of housing.

This includes an alternative means of access for pedestrians and cyclists off Cotts Lane, specifying detailed improvements to the existing footway along the A438, submitting a full heritage assessment to assess the impact of the proposal on the adjacent listed buildings and parkland and submitting a study report to asses the potential for contaminated land.

Mr Spreckley added that a public exhibition was held in Bartestree Village Hall on February 26 that was attended by 41 people.

Out of 18 forms completed, 17 people said they were opposed to the development, with only one in favour.

However, Mr Spreckley states that it is widely accepted that there is a substantial housing shortfall in the county and the amended application provides better access arrangements.

Anyone who wants to comment on the application is asked to do so by March 27.
