School bus changes leave pupils stranded
HUNDREDS of Herefordshire pupils could be forced to attend schools outside the county because of proposed changes to bus services.
Primary and secondary school students currently receive free transport to their nearest school – or a school in their catchment area.
But, under the new proposals put forward by Herefordshire Council, children would only be given a free ride to their closest school.
The plan would particularly affect youngsters living close to the county’s border – when the nearest school could be in Shropshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire or even Wales.
A consultation, revealed by the Hereford Times last month, is underway, but many parents, teachers and children are voicing their concerns about the potential disruption that any change could bring.
