STRANGE!!! the original report of this story has gone?

Expect the taxi driver to be arrested soon for a dodgey clock!!!

Story has been removed from the West Mercia website news feed as well. Obviously for a reason. I still think £50 one way to Leominster via taxi is very steep! But it was at tariff 2 probably. I pre-booked Blue line private hire to get back to Hereford from a Bruce Springsteen gig in Cardiff about 3 years ago because there were no trains. £50 I think it was. At about 11.30pm. He did have a meter running for some reason and that said £120 at the end I think. I paid £50 as agreed. Or whatever it was.

Slow news day? Theres actually no information here. Save this **** for twitter - our at least add some research and investigation to the news items.

The HT is becoming nothing more than a rumour engine for facebook status sized pieces of gossip

The original story was a matter of public interest as the police had issued an appeal for information/assistan
ce. Is carrying such reports not the duty/responsibility of the local press?

As a suspect is now in police hands, there are legal issues to prevent republication of the picture, hence its disappearance from the website. Clearly, as a matter of record, the editor has decided to publish the two lines above in order to keep the public record straight.

"Rumour" has nothing to do with it, Biomech. I would doubt that anything has been published in connection with this incident which has not come from official police sources in a legally correct manner.

Likewise no further 'research or investigation' would result in anything publishable at this stage - I think the law is to do with contempt of court if someone has been arrested (yes, even if they haven't yet appeared in court).

Perhaps someone from the Hereford Times could actually confirm the precise wording of this at some time, so as to prevent future misguided comments on stories such as this. Or better still, prevent comments on news items such as this where any such speculation, accustaion or remark could be legally dubious.

Why are we not allowed to comment on the parish councillor who has been found guilty of abusing children, and got a paltry four and a half years? He should have got a hell of a lot longer than that, and had his bits lobbed off and thrown to the baying hounds of the South Herefordshire hunt,at the very least.

Oh look, our very own HT Staff member is back!

If there is nothing else to be added then:
A: Don't put this out as a full page article
B: Update the original article and bump it to the top
C: Declare it via other means. Twitter, facebook, homepage ticker... etc.

Going on the same theme as previous posters - why don't the HT print a list of names and addresses of people who have been convicted in the local Magistrates Courts , other papers do, it helps to identify disqualified drivers etc who flout the laws after conviction because no member of the public is aware of the conviction. If they were aware and see the person driving perhaps they would advise the Constabulary .

Uboqiue SPOT ON. Totally agree they HT dont even Have a reporter in the courts nowadays. I know for certain they Ha've missed some good scoops lately. Can't say to much.one of which would deffo have made front page, but saying that perhaps they were asked not to print it by higher powers.

Getting ready to go and have one of my treats if the week , breakfast at Ascari . Saw fmrbills post re "higher powers" Didn't think that HCC ran the Courts.
It would not be against Human Rights to publish Court results - I am sure that if the HCC had a meeting with Court officials they would give the HCC a list detailing the convicted persons details, offence (s) and punishment. As I said previously other newspapers print lists and if the HT want examples I will supply them.

The Oxford Mail do a weekly 'scales of justice' local court round up. Usual Motley selection of offences and random sentences. But I least it gives their readers a sense of what is going on locally ....

And that somethings being down I guess.

Maybe politicians should take a leaf out of the book (no pun intended) of the writers of Starbucks. ie; You're not a writer unless you are seen to be writing in Starbucks on your apple mac
