COMPLAINT letters will be "sent fortnightly" in a bid to push Herefordshire Council to take action on various buildings in a Herefordshire town centre.

The move comes as calls for enforcement action increase in Leominster, with North Herefordshire MP Bill Wiggin joining calls for repairs to be made to the town's prominent Royal Oak hotel.

Minutes from a recent meeting of the town council's planning and highways committee revealed that concerns had been raised about properties in the town.

A number of concerns were raised about a half-built house in Dukes Walk, for which a demolition order has been served but not acted on, the minutes said.

"It was noted that the building is often broken into and safety concerns were raised," the minutes said, confirming that the council clerk will be in contact with Herefordshire Council's planning enforcement regarding the site, for which the owner has applied for a certificate of lawfulness.

The town's Royal Oak Hotel was also raised as a concern, with the council noting that the owner received planning permission on the condition that work commenced within a year.

Letters should not exceed 250 words and local issues take precedence.

"The deadline for works to commence is February 23," the minutes said.

The committee resolved that the town clerk would write to Herefordshire Council and the council's chief executive officer regarding the condition of these buildings and the risk they pose to the safety of the public, as well as Flames in West Street and 73 Etnam Street.

"The letter should be repeated fortnightly until the issues have been satisfactorily addressed," the minutes said.
